The project addresses the phenomenon of transnational organized criminal groups active in selected countries of West Africa -- Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria and Senegal -- and their transnational dimension.

In its decision 4/6, the Conference noted that reducing the illicit manufacturing of and trafficking in firearms was one of the major components of the efforts to reduce the violence that accompanied the activities of transnational organized criminal groups and that there was a need for strengthened international cooperation.
2- وقد لاحظ المؤتمر، في مقرره 4/6، أن الحدّ من صنع الأسلحة النارية والاتجار بها بصورة غير مشروعة يمثّل أحد العناصر الرئيسية في الجهود الرامية إلى الحدّ من العنف الذي يصاحب أنشطة الجماعات الإجرامية المنظمة عبر الوطنية وأن ثمة حاجة إلى تعزيز التعاون الدولي في هذا الصدد.

Nonetheless, the involvement of transnational organized criminal groups is increasingly evident in a range of forms of cybercrime, including the operation of global botnets, which are designed to fraudulently obtain credit card and banking information, and the production and distribution of child pornography over the Internet.

33- وشدَّد الاجتماع على التباين بين قدرات الجماعات الإجرامية المنظمة العاملة عبر الحدود والموارد المالية والبشرية المتاحة للسلطات الوطنية المكلَّفة بالتصدِّي للجريمة المنظمة عبر الوطنية.

Many speakers noted that globalization and interconnectivity had contributed to the expansion of transnational organized criminal groups, allowing them to gain power, adapt their modus operandi and operate beyond national borders.
