Pursuant to General Assembly resolutions 48/218 B of 29 July 1994 and 54/244 of 23 December 1999, the Secretary-General has the honour to transmit, for the attention of the General Assembly, the attached report, conveyed to him by the Under-Secretary-General for Internal Oversight Services, on the procurement of goods and services through letters of assist.

The report of OIOS on the procurement of goods and services through letters of assist (A/57/718) summarized the results of an OIOS audit that had reviewed a sample of 35 letters of assist issued by the Department of Peacekeeping Operations during the period 2000-2001, which had a total value of $71.4 million.
