Burkina Faso was elected a member of the Human Rights Council in 2008 with the support of the African Union and many friendly countries, in keeping with the letter and spirit of resolution 60/251 which stipulates that members of the Council shall uphold the highest standards in the promotion and protection of human rights and shall fully cooperate with the Council, including its mechanisms and subsidiary organs.
