4.2 The Committee considers that the author's claims under articles 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 14, 17, 18, 19, 20, 22, 25 and 26 of the Covenant either fall outside of the scope of those provisions or have not been substantiated, for purposes of admissibility.

5.5 Having found no impediment to the admissibility of the author's claims under articles 7, 9 and 17 of the Covenant, the Committee proceeds to their examination on the merits.

8.3 The Committee takes note of the author's claims under articles 7 and 10, paragraph 1, of the Covenant about inhuman conditions of detention and the physical abuse and psychological pressure to which he was allegedly subjected while serving his conviction in the Enakievskaya correctional facility.

8.2 The Committee notes the author's claims under articles 7 and 14, paragraph 3 (g), of the Covenant that Mr. Zhuk was subjected to physical and psychological pressure with the purpose of eliciting a confession of guilt and that his confession served as a basis for his conviction.

8.1 In its submission of 2 November 1999, the State party again addresses the author's claims under articles 7 and 10, paragraph 1, and forwards the results of its investigations.
