Article 7, paragraph 2, of the Convention on the Rights of the Child explicitly requires States parties to ensure the implementation of the right to acquire a nationality in accordance with their national legislation and their obligations under the relevant international human rights instruments, in particular where the child would otherwise be stateless.

7. Article 7 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child provides that children should be registered immediately after birth and have the right from birth to, inter alia, acquire a nationality, and that States parties should ensure the implementation of these rights in accordance with national law and international obligations, in particular where the child would otherwise be stateless.
7- وتنص المادة 7 من اتفاقية حقوق الطفل على أن يسجَّل الطفل بعد ولادته فوراً ويكون له الحق منذ ولادته في أمور منها اكتساب جنسية وعلى أن تكفَل الدول الأطراف إعمال هذه الحقوق وفقاً لقانونها الوطني والتزاماتها الدولية، ولا سيما حيثما يعتبر الطفل عديم الجنسية في حالة عدم القيام بذلك.

In reply to her query on this matter, it was indicated to the Special Rapporteur that once a child victim of commercial sexual exploitation was considered to be in need of protection and care, the first attempt to rehabilitate the child would be to commit it to an approved school or remand home in order “to heal from such activities” and then released for reintegration into society.
٦٨- ورداً علـى السؤال الذي طرحته المقررة الخاصة بشأن هذا الموضوع، قيل لها إنه عندما يعتبر الطفل الذي كان ضحية الاستغلال الجنسي ﻷغراض تجارية على أنه بحاجة إلى حماية ورعاية، تكون الخطوة اﻷولى ﻹعـادة تأهيـل الطفل إحالته إلــى إصلاحية أو مؤسسة للحجز الاحتياطي بغية " شفائه من تلك اﻷنشطة " والافـراج عنه مـن ثم إعادة ادماجه في المجتمع.

Paragraph 2 of the same article provides, moreover, that “States Parties shall ensure the implementation of these rights [...] in particular where the child would otherwise be stateless”.
