Rather than supporting isolated alternative development projects, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Afghanistan is assisting the Government in coordinating donors and agencies in order to ensure that reconstruction programmes properly target both the factors that influence the cultivation of opium poppy and the regions in which it is cultivated.
