2. The secretariat was informed by Mr. van Hoof that, for health reasons, he would not be able to attend the fifty-fifth session of the Sub-Commission or to submit the working paper entrusted to him.

24. On 24 June 2004, the chairpersons met with the Expanded Bureau of the sixtieth session of the Commission and with a representative of the Chairperson of the fifty-fifth session of the Sub-Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights, Mr. Paulo Sergio Pinheiro.

3. Françoise Hampson produced a working paper (E/CN.4/Sub.2/AC.4/2004/CRP.1) which was discussed at the twenty-second session of the Working Group on Indigenous Populations and the fifty-fifth session of the Sub-Commission.

The working paper is to be submitted in three stages: a preliminary paper, which was presented at the fifty-fifth session of the Sub-Commission (E/CN.4/Sub.2/2003/7), an interim stage (fifty-sixth session) and a final stage (fifty-seventh session).

On 11 August, OHCHR and the International Labour Organization (ILO) organized a panel discussion during the fifty-fifth session of the Sub-Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights and the sixty-third session of CERD to discuss multi-stakeholder initiatives at the national level to foster equality and non-discrimination in the workplace and wider community;

Owing to a lack of time between the confirmation of her appointment by the Commission and the deadline for the submission of Sub-Commission documents, the Special Rapporteur - whose appointment has not yet been confirmed by the Economic and Social Council - is not in a position to submit her preliminary report to the fifty-fifth session of the Sub-Commission.

The Sub-Commission appointed Ms. Christy Mbonu as the Special Rapporteur with the task of preparing a comprehensive study on corruption and its impact on the full enjoyment of human rights, in particular economic, social and cultural rights, based on her working paper E/CN.4/Sub 2/2003/18 and the opinions expressed during the debate on the issue during the discussions that took place at the fifty-fifth session of the Sub-Commission.
