7. As I have stated, the existence of the " Governmental Committee " was declared by the Iraqi counterpart during the May 1997 presentation, and the senior counterpart, Dr. Jaffar Dhia Jaffar, the former head of Iraq's clandestine nuclear programme, was asked by me to clarify its function further.

In addition, the counterpart was asked to provide information regarding the inauguration, mandate, membership, authority and duration of operation of the Governmental Committee that had been referred to, during the first presentation, as having been established, inter alia, to " reduce the effect of NPT violation to the minimum " .
١٩ - وباﻹضافة الى ذلك، طُلب الى النظير العراقي أن يقدم المعلومات المتعلقة بإنشاء وولاية وعضوية وسلطة ومدة عمل اللجنة الحكومية التي أشير اليها أثناء اﻹفادة اﻷولى على أنها أنشئت لعدة أسباب منها " تقليل اﻷثر الناجم عن انتهاك معاهدة منع انتشار اﻷسلحة النووية؛ الى أدنى حد ممكن " .

The Committee also calls upon the State party to strengthen the Governmental Committee for Equality between Men and Women by giving it greater visibility and authority vis-à-vis relevant ministries and providing it with the human, financial and technical resources necessary to improve its effective functioning and to enable it to contribute to building sound knowledge and expertise on the situation of women in all areas covered by the Convention.
وتدعو اللجنة أيضاً الدولة الطرف إلى تعزيز اللجنة الحكومية المعنية بتحقيق المساواة بين الرجل والمرأة عن طريق إبراز دورها بدرجة أكبر ومنحها السلطة اللازمة تجاه الوزارات ذات الصلة، وتزويدها بالموارد البشرية والمالية والتقنية الضرورية الكفيلة بتحسين أداء مهامها على نحو فعال وتمكينها من الإسهام في تكوين معارف وخبرات فنية سليمة بشأن حالة المرأة في جميع المجالات المشمولة بالاتفاقية.
