Each year since 1994, the Government of Japan has submitted a draft resolution under the title " Nuclear disarmament with a view to the ultimate elimination of nuclear weapons " , and this draft resolution has always been adopted with wide support from Member States.
تتقدم حكومة اليابان كل عام منذ 1994 بمشروع قرار بعنوان " نزع السلاح النووي بغية القضاء نهائيا على الأسلحة النووية " ، ويعتمد مشروع القرار المذكور دائما بتأييد واسع النطاق من الدول الأعضاء.

We are encouraged by the initiative of the delegation of Japan to put forward a draft resolution on “Nuclear disarmament with a view to the ultimate elimination of nuclear weapons.” We fully share that delegation's objectives in relation to non-proliferation and disarmament.

In this connection, Japan submitted a draft resolution entitled " Nuclear disarmament with a view to the ultimate elimination of nuclear weapons " .

First of all, the title of the draft resolution is now " A path to the total elimination of nuclear weapons " , as opposed to the traditional title " Nuclear disarmament with a view to the ultimate elimination of nuclear weapons " .

However, my delegation must express its regret that under the title of the draft resolution, “Nuclear disarmament with a view to the ultimate elimination of nuclear weapons”, the text of the operative part refers to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), which we feel means that the title and the content are not closely related.
بيد أن وفدي يجب أن يعرب عن أسفه ﻷنه تحت عنوان مشروع القرار " نزع السلاح النووي بغية القضاء نهائيا على اﻷسلحة النووية " يشير نص المنطوق إلى معاهدة منع انتشار اﻷسلحة النووية، مما نشعر أنه يعني أن العنوان والمضمون لا يتصلان الواحد منهما باﻵخر اتصالا وثيقا.

34. On 2 November, Japan submitted a draft resolution entitled " Nuclear disarmament with a view to the ultimate elimination of nuclear weapons " (A/C.1/49/L.33), which was introduced by its representative at the 14th meeting, on 7 November.

Japan had consistently stressed the importance of promoting realistic and steady nuclear disarmament measures, as was proved by the resolution which it had sponsored at the forty-ninth session of the General Assembly, entitled " Nuclear disarmament with a view to the ultimate elimination of nuclear weapons " , and which had been adopted.
