For those countries that are home to TNCs, integrated international production implies that efforts at preserving current employment levels and keeping good jobs at home by restricting outward investment may generate only temporary benefits, which have to be balanced against the possibility of substantial employment losses in the long-term if national firms become internationally less competitive in the process.
