29. With regard to prison conditions, the following measures have been undertaken:
29- وفيما يتعلق بظروف السجن اتُخذت التدابير التالية.

Concerning the issue of the supervision of a sentence of imprisonment, it was generally agreed that the Court should exercise control in critical areas, in order to ensure consistency and compliance with international norms regarding conditions of incarceration (e.g., the 1955 United Nations Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners), and leaving to the custodial State the day-to-day supervision of the prisoner.
٣٥٧ - وفيما يتعلق بمسألة اﻹشراف على تنفيذ عقوبات بالسجن، اتفق بوجه عام على أنه ينبغي للمحكمة أن تتولى اﻹشراف على المجالات الحساسة، ضمانا للاتساق مع اﻷعراف الدولية المتعلقة بظروف السجن والامتثال لها )مثلا: قواعد اﻷمم المتحدة النموذجية الدنيا لمعاملة السجناء، لعام ١٩٥٥(، وأن تترك مهمة اﻹشراف اليومي على السجين للدولة التي يودع لديها.

7.3 With regard to the conditions of detention on death row at St. Catherine's District Prison, the Committee notes that the author has made specific allegations, about the deplorable conditions of his detention.

18. AI noted that there has been little notable progress related to prison conditions and overcrowding remained a serious problem.

47. AHR noted that although recommendations relating to prison conditions and treatment of prisoners had been made and accepted by Cameroon during the first UPR, the conditions of detention continued to violate Cameroon's international obligations.

The Public Defender of Rights reported that the number of complaints with respect to prison conditions has been rising for a long time, in particular regarding requests for transfer to another prison, bullying by fellow prisoners and Prison Service officers, failure to provide a suitable diet, lack of work for inmates, employment and remuneration issues, and insufficient educational and therapeutic work with inmates.
18- ولقد أفاد المدافع العام عن الحقوق بأن عدد الشكاوى فيما يتعلق بظروف السجن يتزايد منذ وقت طويل، وخاصة ما يتعلق منها بطلبات النقل إلى سجن آخر، وبعمليات الترهيب التي يمارسها موظفو السجون ضد السجناء والتي يمارسها السجناء ضد بعضهم البعض، وعدم تقديم وجبات طعام ملائمة لهم، وعدم توفير فرص عمل للسجناء، ومسائل العمل والأجر، وعدم كفاية التعليم والعلاج المقدمين إلى السجناء().

7.3 With regard to the requirement of article 5, paragraph 2 (b) of the Optional Protocol on the exhaustion of domestic remedies, the Committee notes that although the author has claimed a violation of his own human rights in his communication to the Committee the case he initiated in the courts of South Australia was related to general allegations on the prison conditions.

216.
