Mr. GONZALEZ (Mexico) (interpretation from Spanish): My delegation agrees with the representative of Colombia: a majority of members of the First Committee were unequivocal in supporting the inclusion of an item on international arms transfers in the 1994 agenda of the Disarmament Commission, and I do not believe there was any opposition.

As agreed at the organizational session, when it was included on the agenda, the item on international arms transfers was kept strictly within the framework of General Assembly resolution 46/36 H, which stated the view that settlement of this problem would contribute to the maintenance of international peace and security and to the diminishing of tensions, thereby promoting disarmament and socio-economic development.
