A constitutional amendment proposed by the Federal Government and already approved in the first round of voting will ensure an increase of resources for basic education next year from approximately $80 to $300 per child per year, which is more than the level of $230 recommended by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean.

218. At the 34th meeting, on 18 July, the Council adopted draft decision I, entitled " Declaration on the Strengthening of Economic Cooperation in Europe and Plan of Action " , recommended by the Economic Commission for Europe (E/1997/40/Add.1, chap. I, sect. A).

41. Complementing the global effort on aid effectiveness is the Africa-centred effort built around the work by the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and OECD on mutual review of development effectiveness in Africa.

8. As reported by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, in 2004 the economy confronted new challenges; volatility in prices and in the foreign exchange market occurred as a consequence of the new measures announced in May of that year by the Government of the United States to strengthen the embargo.

Also recalls its resolutions 57/2 of 16 September 2002 and 57/7 of 4 November 2002, and stresses the important role played by the Economic Commission for Africa in coordinating the activities of the United Nations system at the regional level in support of the New Partnership for Africa's Development;
