ومنذ الدورة العشرين لمجلس إدارة برنامج الأمم المتحدة للبيئة، تمكن البرنامج من إنتاج أكثر من 50 ورقة علمية حول إيكولوجيا ظلة الشجر وتغير المناخ والتنوع البيولوجي وتبادل الغازات بين ظلة الشجر والغلاف الجوي.

The TFCP has initiated a global network of forest canopy cranes in Australia, Japan, Panama, Switzerland, the United States of America and Venezuela to facilitate the production of research protocols and the exchange of scientists and students.
وقد بدأ برنامج ظلة الغابات الاستوائية شبكة عالمية من محطات ظلة الأشجار في أستراليا واليابان وبنما وسويسرا والولايات المتحدة الأمريكية وفنزويلا وذلك لتيسير وضع بروتوكولات البحوث وتبادل العلماء والطلاب.

(هـ) " الغابة " : هي الأرض التي تمتد على مساحة تتجاوز 0.5 هكتار ومزروعة بأشجار يربو ارتفاعها على 5 أمتار، ولها ظلة تتجاوز 10 في المائة، أو بها أشجار قادرة على بلوغ هذا الارتفاع في الموقع()؛

فتكرار الصيد لبعض اﻷنواع من الطرائد على مستويات منخفضة قد لا يؤدي إلى ضرر ملحوظ، ولكن قطع اﻷخشاب المتعاقب في فترات قصيرة في الغابات المدارية الرطبة يؤدي إلى تغيير ملحوظ في الغابات، حتى ولو جرى قطع اﻷخشاب بدرجة منخفضة من الكثافة، وذلك لشدة اتساع الفتحات في ظلة اﻷشجار ولفداحة اﻷضرار اللاحقة بالمواقع خلال عملية قطع اﻷشجار واستغلال الخشب.

Throughout the present biennium, UNEP has continued to support the Tropical Forest canopy Programme (TFCP), which was established in 1990 by UNEP and the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute to promote research that would help address uncertainties in scientific knowledge of relevance to the Convention on Biological Diversity, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Montreal Protocol.
