Rules 18 and 19 of the Rules of Procedure and Evidence provide the procedures for electing the President and set out the President’s duties. These include presiding at plenary sessions of the judges, coordinating the activities of the Chambers and supervising the activities of the Registry.

(j) In exceptional circumstances, a witness may be able to give evidence before the start of the trial by way of deposition (article 71 of the Rules of Procedures and Evidence of the Tribunal).
