On 21 January, the Ministers of Defence of Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, adopted a draft protocol of the Economic Community of the Great Lake Countries (CEPGL) on mutual defence and security.

23. The Economic Community of the Great Lakes Countries is expected to enhance regional cooperation in identified priority areas, including peace and security, democracy and good governance and economic development.
