At the 5th meeting of its resumed organizational session on 31 March 2000, the Preparatory Committee for the High-level International Intergovernmental Event on financing for development adopted draft resolution A/AC.257/L.1/Rev.1 and recommended that the General Assembly adopt that draft resolution, which is now reproduced in document A/54/L.82.

Mr. Escanero (Mexico) said that the draft resolution, which his delegation had sponsored, reflected the substance of the Millennium Declaration and recognized the importance of appropriately focusing efforts with respect to the preparatory process for the High-level International Intergovernmental Event on financing for development.

The Co-Chairmen of the Preparatory Committee for the High-level International Intergovernmental Event on Financing for Development observed in their summation of the Preparatory Committee's second session that there was a convergence of views that " emphasis should be placed on enhancing cooperation and coherence among different international bodies dealing with financial, trade and developmental issues.
