With regard to the events of the Medak pocket, which had led to the prosecution of two Croatian generals in connection with torture, murder and indiscriminate artillery attacks, she asked why one of those generals, Rahim Ademi, had been acquitted and the other, Mirko Norac, had received a sentence of just seven years.

214. It is the view of the Commission that the Medak pocket investigation report provides exceptionally strong support for the suggestion that prima facie cases can be developed against named Croatian senior officers for the wanton destruction of civilian property.

The crimes were alleged to have occurred during the attack by the Croatian Army on the Medak pocket region in the self-proclaimed Republika Srpska Krajina in the Republic of Croatia from 9 September 1993 until on or about 17 September 1993.

In meetings with my Special Representative, Krajina Serb leaders have emphasized that this was the fourth major military offensive by Croatia (following on those at the Milavjeci Plateau in June 1992, around Maslenica in January 1993 and in the Medak pocket in September 1993) since United Nations peace-keeping forces were deployed.
