The present report, which has been prepared pursuant to that request, takes a thematic approach and summarizes the developments at the sixty-first session of the Commission as well as the relevant principles from the jurisprudence of the Human Rights Committee.

The General Assembly, in its resolution 57/288 of 20 December 2002, requested the Secretary-General to submit a comprehensive report on the progress made by the Tribunal in reforming its legal aid system, particularly with regard to rationalizing the costs of defence counsel and establishing indigence, and the Secretary-General submitted a report pursuant to that request (A/58/288).
وطلبت الجمعية العامة في قرارها 57/288، المؤرخ 20 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2002، إلى الأمين العام أن يقدم تقريرا شاملا عن التقدم الذي تحرزه المحكمة في إصلاح نظامها للمساعدة القضائية لا سيما فيما يتعلق بترشيد تكاليف محامي الدفاع وإثبات حالات العوز، وقدم الأمين العام تقريرا وفقا لذلك الطلب (A/58/288).

2. The Secretariat submitted a working document (A/CN.9/653) prepared pursuant to that request for consideration by the Commission at its forty-first session, and circulated the document to all States for comment by a note verbale dated 6 May 2008.
2- وقدّمت الأمانة وثيقة عمل (A/CN.9/653)، أُعدَّت وفقا لذلك الطلب لكي تنظر فيها اللجنة في دورتها الحادية والأربعين، وعُمِّمت تلك الوثيقة على جميع الدول الأعضاء بمذكّرة شفوية مؤرّخة 6 أيار/مايو 2008، للتعليق عليها.

At its current session, the Commission considered the sample chapter that had been prepared by the Secretariat pursuant to that request (A/CN.9/630 and Add.1-5). The Commission reviewed the structure, level of detail, nature of discussion and type of advice provided in the sample chapter.
195- وفي الدورة الحالية، نظرت اللجنة الأونسيترال في الفصل الذي أعدّته الأمانة كعيِّنة وفقا لذلك الطلب (A/CN.9/630 والإضافات Add.1 إلى Add.5)، واستعرضت بِِنْية هذا الفصل ومستوى التفصيل فيه وطبيعة البحث الذي يتضمّنه ونوع المشورة التي يقدّمها.
