The latest estimates put the number of refugees at 12 million under the mandate of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and 4 million under the mandate of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNWRA) in early 2001.

٥ - وفي ضوء نجاح اشتغال آلية الدفع المنشأة وفقا لمذكرة التفاهم، عين اﻷمين العام وكالة اﻷمم المتحدة ﻹغاثة وتشغيل اللاجئين الفلسطينيين في الشرق اﻷدنى كوكالة مسؤولة عن تنفيذ القرار.

For example, in order to increase the number of women benefiting from job creation programmes, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East has focused on an emergency job creation programme in the West Bank and Gaza.
