Turkey’s latest transformation began with the severe economic, political, and social turmoil of 2001, which then-Prime Minister Bülent Ecevit called a “crisis of the Turkish state.” That year marked the last gasp of the authoritarian/bureaucratic regime that emerged in the early 1920’s, and that had become so isolated from the public that its legitimacy had evaporated.

The threats made by Ecevit and the negative stance of Kinkel and Holbrooke are aimed at dissuading us from the pursuit of our strategic options.

Another ominous action by Turkey is reflected in a " joint declaration " issued by Mr. Ecevit and the leader of the Turkish-Cypriot community, Mr. R. Denktash.
ومن اﻷفعال اﻷخرى المنذرة بالسوء التي أقدمت عليها تركيا " اﻹعلان المشترك " الذي أصدره السيد إيشفيت وزعيم طائفة القبارصة اﻷتراك السيد ر.

At that time he was deputy Prime Minister of the Turkish Government, under Prime Minister Ecevit.
وكان يشغل حينذاك منصب نائب رئيس الوزراء في الحكومة التركية، وكان إيسفيت رئيس الوزراء.

Deputy Prime Minister Ecevit's visit to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus with other high-level Turkish officials on the above-mentioned occasion, in the context of the special relations that exist between the two countries, demonstrates Turkey's continuing commitment to the security and well-being of the Turkish Cypriot people.
إن زيارة نائب رئيس الوزراء إيشفيت إلى جمهورية قبرص الشمالية التركية بصحبة كبار المسؤولين اﻷتراك في المناسبة السالفة الذكر، وفي إطار العلاقات الخاصة القائمة بين البلدين، تدلل على استمرار التزام تركيا بأمن ورفاه الشعب القبرصي التركي.

It follows the " joint declaration " issued by the Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey, Mr. Bulent Ecevit, and the leader of the Turkish Cypriot Community, Mr. Rauf Denktash, on 20 July 1997 during the former's visit to the occupied areas, as indicated in my letter to you of 22 July 1997 (A/51/948-S/1997/580 and Corr.1).
وهي تأتي في أعقاب " اﻹعلان المشترك " الذي أصدره السيد بولينت إيشفيت نائب رئيس وزراء تركيـــا والسيد رؤوف دينكتاش زعيم الطائفة القبرصية التركية في ٢٠ تموز/يوليه ١٩٩٧ إبان زيارة السيد إيشفيت للمناطق المحتلة، وهو ما أشرت إليه في رسالتي إليكم المؤرخة ٢٢ تموز/يوليه ١٩٩٧ A/51/948-S/1997/580) و Corr.1(.

Ankara fully supported the stance taken by Mr. Denktash. Following the conference at the Presidential Palace, the Prime Minister of Turkey, Mr. Bulent Ecevit, stated that Turkey supported Mr. Denktash's position to withdraw from the talks.
وأيدت أنقرة تماماً موقف السيد دنكتاش، وعقب المؤتمر في القصر الرئاسي قرر السيد بولينت إيسفيت رئيس وزراء تركيا أن تركيا تؤيد موقف السيد دنكتاش بالانسحاب من المباحثات.
