2. H.E. Mr. Farouq Qaddoumi briefed the meeting on the current situation in the occupied Palestinian territory, including Jerusalem (Al-Quds), and also on the latest developments in the ongoing peace process in the Middle East.
٢ - أطلــع سعادة السيد فــاروق قدومــي الاجتمــاع على الحالة الراهنة في اﻷرض الفلسطينية المحتلة، بما فيها القدس، وكذلك على آخر تطورات عملية السلم الجارية في الشرق اﻷوسط.

Moreover, holding the congress in Palestine ended the role of many Fatah leaders who had opposed the Oslo accords, such as Farouk Qaddoumi and Mahmoud Jihad. Sidelining men like Qaddoumi, whose accusation, on the eve of the congress, that Abbas and Mohammad Dahlan had helped Israel poison Arafat, also distances Fatah from its one-time alliance with hard-line Arab countries such as Syria and Libya.
فضلاً عن ذلك فإن انعقاد المؤتمر في فلسطين أنهى دور العديد من زعماء حركة فتح الذين عارضوا اتفاقيات أوسلو، مثل فاروق القدومي و محمود جهاد . كما جاء تهميش رجال مثل القدومي ، والذين اتهموا عباس و محمد دحلان في عشية انعقاد المؤتمر بمساعدة إسرائيل في تسميم عرفات ، ليساعد في مباعدة المسافات بين حركة فتح وتحالفها لمرة واحدة مع بلدان عربية متشددة مثل سوريا وليبيا.
