16. Background: At its sixteenth session, the COP established the Cancun Adaptation Framework, with the objective of enhancing action on adaptation, including through international cooperation and coherent consideration of matters relating to adaptation under the Convention.

14. Invites all Parties to enhance action on adaptation under the Cancun Adaptation Framework, taking into account their common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities, and specific national and regional development priorities, objectives and circumstances, by undertaking, inter alia, the following:

An introductory session provided background information on current and future developments in adaptation under the Convention, the objectives of the Nairobi work programme and the expected outcomes of the meeting.
11- وقُدّمت، في جلسة تمهيدية، معلومات أساسية عن التطورات الحالية والمقبلة في مجال التكيّف في إطار الاتفاقية، وأهداف برنامج عمل نيروبي، والنتائج المتوقعة من الاجتماع.

Consideration of this aspect should be consistent with ongoing work on adaptation under the Convention11.
وينبغي أن يكون هناك اتساق بين عملية النظر في هذا الجانب والأعمال الجارية بشأن التكيف في إطار الاتفاقية(11).

Decides that funding for adaptation projects and measures under the adaptation fund shall be consistent with ongoing work on adaptation under the Convention and shall be used to meet part of the costs related to adaptation.

(b) Be in conformity with national strategies and priorities for the sustainable development of the Party concerned and address the specific vulnerabilities identified in the Party's national communications, in a manner consistent with work on adaptation under the Convention;

Several Parties emphasized that the Adaptation Committee should be the overarching body for addressing adaptation under the Convention and should be the primary body for coordination of the currently fragmented adaptation initiatives.

He noted the catalytic role the EGTT could play in mobilizing action on technologies for adaptation and stressed the need to link the work on technology with the work on adaptation under the Convention, especially relating to the initiation of projects on a national basis and on a regional basis.

An introductory session provided background information on recent developments in adaptation under the UNFCCC, the objectives of the Nairobi work programme and the mandate for the workshop, and included presentations on the information contained in the adaptation planning and practices submissions referred to in paragraph 11 below, relevant work from the expert groups and the perspective of FAO on adaptation planning and practices.
