The main goal of the United Nations Survey is to collect data on the incidence of reported crime and the operations of criminal justice systems (police, prosecution, courts, prisons and penal institutions).

Recommends that the Secretary-General carry out the Sixth United Nations Survey of Crime Trends and the operations of criminal justice systems for the period 1995-1997 and that subsequent core surveys be conducted every three or four years and include, when needed, supplementary surveys on selected topics;
٣ - يوصي بأن يضطلع اﻷمين العام بدراسة اﻷمم المتحدة الاستقصائية السادسة بشأن اتجاهات الجريمة وعمليات نظم العدالة الجنائية للفترة ٥٩٩١ - ٧٩٩١، وبأن تجرى الاستقصاءات اﻷساسية اللاحقة مرة كل ثلاث أو أربع سنوات، وأن تتضمن، عند الاقتضاء، استقصاءات تكميلية بشأن مواضيع مختارة؛

29. The revision of the United Nations Survey on Crime Trends and the operations of criminal justice systems will be conducted in close consultation with the ICCS advisory group and national technical experts.

UNODC has also assisted the relevant national agencies in Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea and Mali to improve the quality and rate of their participation in the United Nations Survey of Crime Trends and the operations of criminal justice systems and annual report questionnaire through the creation of a standard matrix on drug seizures.

The number of data elements in the database has increased by 17 per cent, to 204,750 since Member States reported new data to UNODC through the annual reports questionnaire and the United Nations surveys on crime trends and the operations of criminal justice systems.

Through the United Nations Survey of Crime Trends and Operations of Criminal Justice Systems, UNODC collects data on the incidence of reported crime and the operations of criminal justice systems with a view to improving the analysis and dissemination of that information worldwide.
8- ومن خلال دراسة الأمم المتحدة الاستقصائية لاتجاهات الجريمة وعمليات نظم العدالة الجنائية،(6) يجمع مكتب الأمم المتحدة المعني بالمخدرات والجريمة بيانات عن تواتر وقوع الجرائم المبلّغ عنها وعن عمليات نظم العدالة الجنائية من أجل تحسين تحليل تلك المعلومات وتعميمها على نطاق العالم.
