8. Requests the Secretary-General to continue to implement the guidelines for the hiring and use of consultants and individual contractors in the Secretariat, in full conformity with the provisions of section VIII of its resolution 53/221 of 7 April 1999;

The present report is submitted pursuant to General Assembly resolution 53/221 of 7 April 1999, by which the Secretary-General was requested to submit a report on the implementation of recommendations by the Board of Auditors on the hiring and use of consultants.
يقدم هذا التقرير عملا بقرار الجمعية العامة ٥٣/٢٢١ المؤرخ ٧ نيسان/أبريل ١٩٩٩ الذي طُلب فيه إلى اﻷمين العام أن يقدم تقريرا عن تنفيذ توصيات مجلس مراجعي الحسابات بشـأن تعيين الاستشاريين واستخدامهم.

The Secretary-General has the honour to transmit to the General Assembly a letter dated 29 June 1999 from the Chairman of the Board of Auditors transmitting the comments of the Board on the report of the Secretary-General on the hiring and use of consultants in the Secretariat submitted in accordance with section VIII of General Assembly resolution 53/221 of 7 April 1999.

An important element to ensure better control of compliance with rules and regulations in the selection and use of consultants is to introduce built-in control and monitoring measures into the information systems.
