A conceptual separation between ecosystem-based approaches for adaptation and adaptation of ecosystems is needed, while recognizing the broader role that ecosystems could play in actions to combat climate change.

23. Participants discussed the need to recognize the distinctions and synergies between ecosystem-based approaches for adaptation and other adaptation approaches.
