It urged States to enact and strictly enforce laws concerning the Minimum legal age of consent and the minimum age for marriage and to raise the minimum age for marriage where necessary, and called upon States to take all necessary measures to ensure the right of women and girls to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health, including sexual and reproductive health.

The European Union encouraged States, as a matter of priority, to sign and ratify the ILO Conventions concerning the Minimum age for admission to employment and on elimination of the worst forms of child labour.

The meeting was informed that different countries and agencies utilized different definitions of the term " child " especially in relation to laws concerning the Minimum age of employment and apprenticeship.

6. Urges States to enact and strictly enforce laws to ensure that marriage is entered into only with the free and full consent of the intending spouses, to enact and strictly enforce laws concerning the Minimum legal age of consent and the minimum age for marriage and to raise the minimum age for marriage where necessary;

It asked about intended changes to the criminal law concerning the Minimum age of criminal responsibility for children.

106. The Committee welcomes the State party's ratification in 2000 of ILO Conventions No. 138 concerning the Minimum age for admission to employment and No. 182 concerning the prohibition and immediate action for the elimination of the worst forms of child labour.

The Committee suggests that legislation concerning the age of mandatory education and that concerning the Minimum age for employment be adjusted and that the age of marriage for girls and boys be the same.
