The strategies and priority lines of action needed to eradicate poverty and achieve sustainable development, as effectively analysed in the report of the Secretary-General on the implementation of the First United Nations Decade for the Eradication of Poverty (1997-2006) (A/62/267), must be pursued in an environment of peace, stability and good governance, which were prerequisites for sustainable development.
