At its 104th plenary meeting, on 9 September 2009, the General Assembly, having considered the letter from the Secretary-General dated 19 June 2009, as well as the letter from the President of the Security Council dated 8 July 2009, transmitting the text of Council resolution 1877 (2009) of 7 July 2009, decided that:

In order to enable the General Assembly to consider the letter from the Secretary-General dated 27 March 2006 and the letter dated 10 April 2006 from the President of the Security Council addressed to the President of the General Assembly, contained in documents A/60/741 and A/60/746, respectively, it will be necessary to reopen the consideration of agenda item 157.

By a letter dated 17 August (S/2012/654), the President of the Security Council responded to a letter from the Secretary-General dated 10 August (S/2012/618) and indicated that the members of the Council had taken note of his intention to establish an effective and flexible United Nations presence in support of the work of the Joint Special Representative in the Syrian Arab Republic.
في رسالة مؤرخة 17 آب/أغسطس (S/2012/654)، رد رئيس مجلس الأمن على رسالة موجهة إليه من الأمين العام بتاريخ 10 آب/أغسطس (S/2012/618)، فذكر أن أعضاء المجلس أحاطوا علما باعتزامه إنشاء آلية فعالة ومرنة لوجود الأمم المتحدة لدعم عمل الممثل الخاص المشترك في الجمهورية العربية السورية.
