The illiteracy eradication and Adult Education Organization has implemented several activities recently, of which the most notable are:

At present, the Ministry of Education and Training is carrying out on a trial basis an illiteracy eradication programme aimed at women only.

Ministerial decision No. 32/82 on the regulations determining the level of those who read and write but did not obtain a literacy certificate (see annex 28 containing the illiteracy eradication law and the above-mentioned decisions).

IV. illiteracy eradication and Adult Education
محو الأمية وتعليم الكبار:

The illiteracy eradication Law defines the roles of the General Authority for Literacy and Adult Education, Ministry of Education, and other government agencies engaged in this field.

Every year about 250,000 people attend illiteracy eradication classes and over 100,000 people attend post-illiteracy classes (equivalent to third grade).
ويلتحق نحو ٠٠٠ ٢٥٠ شخص كل عام بفصول محو اﻷمية وأكثر من ٠٠٠ ١٠٠ بفصول لاحقة لمحو اﻷمية )معادلة للصف الثالث(.

To date, nearly 69 per cent of provinces and cities under the central Government, 67.6 per cent of districts and 82.9 per cent of communes were recognized as having met the national standards on illiteracy eradication and primary education universalization.
