25. On 14 December 1998, Omar Serushago, former head of the Interahamwe militia in Gisenyi Prefecture, pleaded guilty before Trial Chamber I, composed of Judge Laïty Kama, Presiding, Judge Lennart Aspegren and Judge Navanethem Pillay.

Meanwhile, in an unfortunate development, the first President of the Tribunal for Rwanda and Presiding Judge of its Trial Chamber II, Judge Laïty Kama (Senegal), passed away on 6 May 2001 in Nairobi as a result of illness.
