The principle of distinction prescribes that parties to the conflict must at all times distinguish between civilian objects and military objectives, and that civilian objects must not be the object of attack.

25 - فإن كان موظفو الشركات العسكرية والأمنية الخاصة من المدنيين وفقا للقانون الإنساني الدولي، لا يجوز أن يكونوا هدفا للهجوم إلا في حالة مشاركتهم المباشرة في أعمال عدائية وفي حدود وقت تلك المشاركة.

1. United Nations and associated personnel, their equipment and premises shall not be made the object of attack or of any action that prevents them from discharging their mandate.
١ - لا يجب جعل موظفي اﻷمم المتحدة واﻷفراد المرتبطين بها ومعداتهم وأماكن عملهم هدفا للهجوم أو ﻷي إجراء يمنعهم من أداء الولاية المنوطة بهم.

(a) making forests or other kinds of plant cover the object of attack by incendiary weapons except when such natural elements are used to cover, conceal or camouflage combatants or other military objectives, or are themselves military objectives;
)أ( جعل الغابات أو اﻷنواع اﻷخرى من الغطاء النباتي هدفا للهجوم باﻷسلحة الملتهبة إلا عندما تستعمل هذه العناصر الطبيعية وسيلة لتغطية أو إخفاء أو تمويه المقاتلين أو اﻷهداف العسكرية اﻷخرى، أو عندما تكون هي في حد ذاتها أهدافا عسكرية؛

Article 85 (Repression of breaches of this Protocol), paragraphs 3 (a) and (b), of Additional Protocol I state that " making the civilian population or individual civilians the object of attack " and " launching an indiscriminate attack affecting the civilian population " are grave breaches of the Protocol.

" 49. Recalls, in accordance with international humanitarian law, that indiscriminate attacks against civilians, including children, are prohibited and that they shall not be the object of attack, including by way of reprisal or excessive use of force, condemns these practices, and demands that all parties immediately put an end to them;

٣ - تشكل جرائم القتل هذه انتهاكا للقانون الدولي لحقوق اﻹنسان والقانون الدولي اﻹنساني، الذي ينص على تحريم جعل المدنيين هدفا ﻷي هجوم.

2. The civilian population as such, as well as individual civilians, shall not be the object of attack.
