Following a recommendation made by the Group of 77 at the previous session of the Board, the Secretariat had undertaken a review of the status of cooperation between UNIDO and the various intergovernmental, non-governmental, governmental and other organizations that had been granted consultative status with the Organization.

However, despite the progress achieved in terms of cooperation between UNIDO and other multilateral agencies, there was still much potential for UNIDO to push forward South-South cooperation, and much remained to be done to raise awareness of South-South cooperation, strengthen fund mobilization, improve cooperation and coordination among different bodies and promote the implementation of specific projects.

In the context of cooperation between UNIDO and the Republic of Korea since 1997, the Investment Promotion Service (IPS) office in Seoul was continuing to promote investment projects for developing countries, and work on the preparatory phase for the establishment of the International Centre for Material Evaluation Technology (ICMET) was proceeding with government funding.

1- عرضت الأمانة على المؤتمر العام، في دورته الثالثة عشرة، وثيقة استعرضت فيها حالة التعاون بين اليونيدو والمنظمات الحكومية الدولية والمنظمات الحكومية وغير الحكومية وغيرها من المنظمات (الوثيقة GC.13/11).

He welcomed the agreements reached on the further strengthening of cooperation between UNIDO and UNDP in the field, and trusted that further steps towards decentralization would be based on an analysis of the experience accumulated by field representatives during the pilot phase, without any additional burden being placed on the budget and subject to the availability of extrabudgetary resources.
