The Subcommission adopted in its resolution 1994/30 of 26 August 1994, a Plan of Action for the Elimination of Harmful Traditional Practices affecting the Health of Women and Children, submitted by the Special Rapporteur.

It is for these reasons that the Special Rapporteur is convinced that the Plan of Action for the Elimination of Harmful Traditional Practices affecting the Health of Women and Children, as elaborated on the basis of the two seminars and as adopted by the Subcommission at its forty-sixth session, provides a global framework for action at the national, regional and international levels.

At the second symposium, participants considered in depth the preliminary draft convention on the elimination of Harmful Traditional Practices affecting the human rights of women and girls, together with the comments made by the Organization of African Unity (OAU) on the preliminary draft, which had already been revised at a preparatory meeting held in Addis Ababa from 18 to 22 November 1999.
