وأردف قائلا إنه من المنجزات التي تحققت منذ انعقاد مؤتمر اﻷمم المتحدة المعني بالبيئة والتنمية التفاوض بشأن اتفاقية دولية لمكافحة التصحر في البلدان التي تعاني من الجفاف الشديد و/أو التصحر، وبخاصة في افريقيا، واﻷعمال المتصلة باتفاقية اﻷمم المتحدة اﻹطارية المعنية بتغير المناخ، وعقد المؤتمر العالمي المعني بالتنمية المستدامة للدول الجزرية الصغيرة النامية.

23. Another crucial matter was the issuance of visas to representatives of Member States who wished to participate in events related to the United Nations and who, in the case of the Russian Federation, usually had to wait for three weeks, or sometimes even longer, before receiving their visa.

As regards secretariat services to the United Nations Staff Pension Committee, the services include the preparation of documentation related to reviews of claims for disability benefits and of the continued eligibility for such benefits; analyses of issues before the Pension Committee, the Pension Board and/or the Standing Committee; and travel arrangements for members of the Pension Committee.
١٣٩ - وفيما يتعلق بخدمات اﻷمانة المقدمة إلى لجنة المعاشات التقاعدية، تشمل الخدمات إعداد الوثائق ذات الصلة باستعراضات المطالبات باستحقاقات العجز واستمرار اﻷهلية لتلقي تلك الاستحقاقات؛ وتحليل القضايا المعروضة على لجنة المعاشات التقاعدية، ومجلس المعاشات التقاعدية و/أو اللجنة الدائمة؛ وترتيبات سفر أعضاء لجنة المعاشات التقاعدية.

(c) No compensation shall be payable by the United Nations for loss or damages that, in the sole opinion of the Secretary-General, are impossible to verify or are not directly related to the loss of or damage to the premises;

٧١ - ومضى يقول إن من الممكن تعزيز فعالية اﻹعلان المتعلق بحقوق اﻷشخاص الذين ينتمون إلى أقليات وطنية أو عرقية أو دينية أو لغوية إلى حد كبير عن طريق تكثيف اشتراك هيئات اﻷمم المتحدة المنشأة بمعاهدات ومقرريها الخاصين فضلا عن توسيع نطاق الاستفادة من قدرات منظومة اﻷمم المتحدة وتطويرها ﻷغراض منع وتسوية المنازعات العرقية والمنازعات المتصلة بها.

4. Requests the organs and organizations of the United Nations system to devote priority attention to the development of strategies and programmes that integrate water and land issues dealing with natural or man-made disasters related to water and mineral resources such as floods, drought-driven famine, massive pollution, dam failures, soil degradation or salinization, mine explosion or caving, or land subsistence;
٤ - يطلب إلى هيئات ومؤسسات منظومة اﻷمم المتحدة، إيلاء الاهتمام على سبيل اﻷولوية لوضع استراتيجيات وبرامج تتكامل فيها مسائل المياه واﻷراضي، لدى تصديها للكوارث الطبيعية أو الكوارث التي يتسبب فيها البشر المتصلة بالموارد المائية والمعدنية، مثل الفيضانات، والمجاعات الناجمة عن الجفاف، والتلوث الجسيم، وانهيارات السدود، وتحات التربة أو تملحها، وانفجار المناجم أو انهيارها، وهبوط اﻷرض؛

1. By its resolution 918 (1994) of 17 May 1994, the Security Council, acting under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations, imposed mandatory sanctions against Rwanda, relating to the sale or supply to Rwanda of arms and related matériel of all types, including weapons and ammunition, military vehicles and equipment, paramilitary police equipment and spare parts.
١ - في القرار ٩١٨ )١٩٩٤( الذي اتخذه مجلس اﻷمن في ١٧ أيار/مايو ١٩٩٤، تصرف المجلس بموجب الفصل السابع من ميثاق اﻷمم المتحدة، وفرض على رواندا جزاءات إلزامية، تتصل ببيع أو توريد اﻷسلحة والعتاد بجميع أنواعه الى رواندا، بما في ذلك اﻷسلحة والذخائر، والمركبات والمعدات العسكرية، ومعدات الشرطة شبه العسكرية وقطع الغيار اللازمة.
