269. The second session of the Intergovernmental Review Meeting on the Implementation of the Global Programme of Action was held in Beijing, from 16 to 20 October 2006, to consider progress in implementation of GPA and to identify options for strengthening its implementation.

The outcomes of the Intergovernmental Review on the Global Programme of Action to Protect the Marine Environment from Land-based Activities provide strategic direction for the further implementation of the programme.

1. Endorses the Beijing Declaration and the outcomes of the second session of the Intergovernmental Review Meeting on the Implementation of the Global Programme of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land-based Activities as detailed in the report of that meeting;

(a) To take fully into account the results of the Intergovernmental Review called for in paragraph 10 of General Assembly resolution 47/212 and the implementation of the revisions to the programme budget for the biennium 1992-1993 associated with the restructuring process;

In addition, following the second session of the Intergovernmental Review Meeting on the Implementation of the Global Programme of Action (see A/62/66, paras. 268-272), the Coordination Office prepared a revised version of its guidance document on the implementation of the Global Programme of Action for 2007-2011.

The third session of the Intergovernmental Review Meeting on the Implementation of the Global Programme of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land-based Activities is tentatively scheduled to take place in November 2011.

The incomplete specific action by Governments in limiting land-based sources of pollution has proved a challenge in raising funds for fully implementing some revitalization work, as well as in meeting the objectives of the second session of the Intergovernmental Review Meeting on the Implementation of the Global Programme of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land-based Activities.
وكان عدم اكتمال العمل الخاص من جانب الحكومات للحد من المصادر البرية للتلوث يمثل تحدياً بالنسبة لجمع الأموال من أجل تنفيذ بعض أموال التنشيط بصورة كاملة، وكذلك لتحقيق أهداف الدورة الثانية للاجتماع الاستعراضي الحكومي الدولي المعني بتنفيذ برنامج العمل العالمي لحماية البيئة البحرية من الأنشطة البرية.

54 - ومن المقرر مبدئيا أن تُعقد في تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر 2011 الدورة الثالثة للاجتماع الاستعراضي الحكومي الدولي المعني بتنفيذ برنامج العمل العالمي لحماية البيئة البحرية من الأنشطة البرية.

:: Coastal Zone Canada Conference, Saint John, 17-22 September 2000, where two GPA-related sessions were organized, one on lessons learned and moving to GPA implementation within the context of the Intergovernmental Review Meeting, and another on municipal wastewater;
