The resources requested would cover only the most essential architectural repairs, rehabilitation of the facades, replacement of windows and the needed repairs to the roof, to preserve the architectural and structural integrity of the residence.

2. The Fifth Committee considered the question of the renovation of the residence of the Secretary-General under agenda item 117 at its 13th and 24th meetings, on 31 October and 22 November 2006.

For its consideration of the question, the Committee had before it the report of the Secretary-General on the renovation of the residence of the Secretary-General: revised estimates to the programme budget for the biennium 2006-2007 (A/61/377) and the related report of the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions (A/61/523).
3 - وكان معروضا على اللجنة من أجل النظر في هذه المسألة تقرير الأمين العام بشأن تجديد مقر إقامة الأمين العام: التقديرات المنقحة للميزانية البرنامجية لفترة السنتين 2006-2007 (A/61/377) وتقرير اللجنة الاستشارية لشؤون الإدارة والميزانية ذو الصلة (A/61/523).

4. At its 24th meeting, on 22 November, the Committee had before it a draft resolution entitled " Renovation of the residence of the Secretary-General " (A/C.5/61/L.8), which was submitted by the Chairman on the basis of informal consultations coordinated by the representative of Côte d'Ivoire.

Having considered the report of the Secretary-General entitled " Renovation of the residence of the Secretary-General: revised estimates to the programme budget for the biennium 2006 - 2007 " and the related report of the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions,
وقد نظرت في تقرير الأمين العام المعنون ' ' تجديد مقر إقامة الأمين العام: التقديرات المنقحة للميزانية البرنامجية لفترة السنتين 2006-2007``() وتقرير اللجنة الاستشارية لشؤون الإدارة والميزانية الصادر في هذا الصدد()،

9. An amount of $20,759,900, reflecting decisions of policymaking organs, is included in the performance report in connection with strengthening the capacity of the United Nations to manage and sustain peacekeeping operations (reduction of $213,000); strengthened and unified security management system (increase of $18,045,400); and renovation of the residence of the Secretary-General (increase of $2,927,500) (see A/62/575, paras. 18-38).
