The Committee also discussed the relation between ecosystems and water resources and the need advocated in the report of the Expert Group Meeting on Strategic Approaches to Freshwater Management held in Harare in January 1998 (E/CN.17/1998/2/Add.1), to promote an ecosystem approach in integrated water resources management within the river basin framework.

يشرفني أن أقدم طيه تقرير اجتماع فريق الخبراء المعني بالنهج الاستراتيجية ﻹدارة المياه العذبة*، المعقود في هراري، زمبابوي، من ٢٧ الى ٣٠ كانون الثاني/يناير ١٩٩٨، للاستفادة منه كوثيقة من وثائق لجنة التنمية المستدامة، وفريقها العامل بين الدورات المخصص للنهج الاستراتيجية ﻹدارة المياه العذبة.

3. The United Nations Secretariat has reviewed the credentials of the above body, and recommends that it be invited to attend the session of the Inter-sessional Ad Hoc Working Group on Strategic Approaches to Freshwater Management as an intergovernmental organization, with the status of observer.
٣ - وقد استعرضت اﻷمانة العامة لﻷمم المتحدة وثائق تفويض الهيئة المذكورة أعلاه وهي توصي بدعوتها لحضور دورة الفريق العامل المخصص المعقود بين الدورات المعني بالنهج الاستراتيجية ﻹدارة المياه العذبة بوصفها منظمة حكومية دولية تتمتع بمركز المراقب.

2. At the 2nd meeting, on 20 April, the Commission heard a statement on the outcome of the work of the Inter-sessional Ad Hoc Working Group on Strategic Approaches to Freshwater Management.

Strategic approaches to freshwater management For the discussion, see chap. IV below. 1. The Commission on Sustainable Development, having considered the reports of the Secretary-General on Strategic Approaches to freshwater management E/CN.17/1998/2.
١ - إن لجنة التنمية المستدامة، وقد نظرت في تقريري اﻷمين العام عن النهج الاستراتيجية ﻹدارة المياه العذبة)٣(، وأنشطة هيئات منظومة اﻷمم المتحدة في ميدان موارد الميـاه العذبـــة)٤(، ترحــب بتقريــر

The momentum gained at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development with regard to freshwater issues was further enhanced at the Expert Group Meeting on Strategic Approaches to Freshwater Management, held in Harare in 1998, and by the Commission on Sustainable Development by its decision 6/1, entitled " Strategic approaches to freshwater management " .
وازدادت قوة الدفع التي حققها مؤتمر الأمم المتحدة المعني بالبيئة والتنمية بشأن قضايا المياه العذبة في اجتماع فريق الخبراء المعني بالنُهُج الاستراتيجية لإدارة المياه العذبة الذي انعقد في هراري في عام 1998، وفي لجنة التنمية المستدامة بقرارها 6/1 المعنون " النُهُج الاستراتيجية فيما يتعلق بإدارة المياه العذبة " .
