While the Rio Group countries welcomed the results of the first Conference of the Parties to the Convention to Combat Desertification, they wished to stress that the issues dealt with in that Convention must be treated in the same way as the issues of the Convention on Biological Diversity and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
