The persistence of cultural traditions and customary law perpetuates certain prejudices which sanction violence against women.
وإن استمرار التقاليد الثقافية والقانون العرفي يغذي الأحكام المسبقة التي تشجع أشكال العنف الممارس ضد المرأة.

The State party is urged to take appropriate measures to prevent such incidents in the future and to provide appropriate training of, in particular, public officials, law enforcement officers and administrators with a view to combating prejudices which lead to racial discrimination, in compliance with article 7 of the Convention.

16. Article 7 of the Convention stresses the importance of adopting measures in the fields of teaching, education, culture and information with a view to combating prejudices which lead to racial discrimination.
16- وتؤكد المادة 7 من الاتفاقية على أهمية اعتماد تدابير في مجالات التعليم والتربية والثقافة والإعلام بغية مكافحة النعرات المؤدية إلى التمييز العنصري.

With respect to article 7, concern is expressed about whether the efforts in teaching and education to combat prejudices which lead to racial discrimination are sufficient.

279. With respect to article 7, it is considered that insufficient information was made available concerning efforts in teaching and education to combat prejudices which lead to racial discrimination and to promote understanding, tolerance and friendship, as required under this article.

The indifference, when not the outright contempt, with which such women are treated is a result of the superficial attitude taken by society to this question and of prejudices which still persist; thus, any woman who complains of having been beaten, harassed or humiliated is regarded as a trouble-maker who just feels like airing her private life in public, especially if it is not the first time that she has taken such action.
