The establishment of a zone free of nuclear weapons and all other weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East would ensure implementation of the many relevant United Nations General Assembly resolutions, as well as that of Security Council resolutions 487 (1981) and 687 (1991), which stress the importance of establishing such a zone and placing Israeli nuclear facilities under the comprehensive safeguards system of IAEA.
