Activities in connection therewith would be carried out subject to availability of extrabudgetary resources in the Voluntary Fund for Technical Cooperation in the Field of Human Rights.

As at 30 April 2000, there were 47 ongoing technical cooperation projects administered by the Voluntary Fund for Technical Cooperation in the Field of Human Rights, at least 30 of which were providing support to activities related to strengthening the rule of law.

He noted that all the members of the Board of Trustees of the Voluntary Fund for Technical Cooperation in the Field of Human Rights had addressed a letter to the Secretary-General expressing the view that technical cooperation should be managed separately from special procedures and monitoring in view of the different nature of the two sets of activities which required different expertise, procedures and methodologies.
