لندن ــ لا نستطيع أن نصف الانتخابات الديمقراطية باعتبارها منافَسة تهدف إلى الكشف عن أي المرشحين ينبئنا بالحقيقة الناصعة. إن أغلب الساسة يحاولون تجنب الإدلاء بأكاذيب صريحة؛ فهم ينتهجون طريقة أشبه بالملاكمين عندما يواجهون بأسئلة ربما توقعهم في شَرَك الكذب الصريح. ولكنهم يبالغون دوماً في تقدير ما يمكنهم تقديمه، فضلاً عن المخاطر التي قد تترتب على فوز خصومهم.
