5. This provision bans the deployment of weapons of mass destruction in orbit around the Earth, on celestial bodies and in outer space, but does not deal with weapons other than WMD, such as conventional weapons and new types of weapons based on other physical principles.

The Workshop stressed the need to maintain outer space for peaceful purposes and recalled that the Outer Space Treaty prohibited the placement in orbit around the Earth of any objects carrying nuclear weapons or any other kinds of weapons of mass destruction, the installation of such weapons on celestial bodies and the stationing of such weapons in outer space in any other manner.
28- وشدّدت حلقة العمل على الحاجة إلى الحفاظ على الفضاء الخارجي من أجل الأغراض السلمية وذكّرت بأن معاهدة الفضاء الخارجي تحظر وضع أي أجسام تحمل أي أسلحة نووية أو أي نوع آخر من أسلحة الدمار الشامل في أي مدار حول الأرض أو تنصيب هذه الأسلحة على أي أجرام سماوية أو في الفضاء الخارجي بأي طريقة أخرى.

It is suggested that this treaty should lay down three basic obligations: first, not to place in orbit around the earth any objects carrying any kinds of weapons, install such weapons on celestial bodies or station such weapons in outer space in any other manner.
واقتُرِح أن تحدد هذه المعاهدة ثلاثة التزامات أساسية: أولاً، عدم وضع أي أجسام تحمل أي نوع من الأسلحة في المدار حول الأرض، أو تركيب مثل هذه الأسلحة على أجرام سماوية، أو وضعها بأي طريقة أخرى في الفضاء الخارجي.
