51. The United Nations is engaged in a process of formulating an international development strategy for the first decade of the new century.

It was a matter of concern to his delegation that, although the Secretary-General had, in accordance with General Assembly resolution 54/206, submitted a draft text of an international development strategy for the first decade of the new millennium, the required consultations for establishing the modalities for the consideration and conclusion of the draft strategy for development had not yet taken place.
