All the chapters are related to land; however, those on forests and sustainable agriculture are concerned with the sustainable management and use of physical and biological resources, those on desertification and sustainable mountain development reflect the particular problems of fragile environments, and that on biodiversity covers an issue of a cross-cutting nature.

4. The report takes into consideration paragraphs 11 and 15 of the Statement on biodiversity and Forests from the Convention on biological diversity to the Ad Hoc Intergovernmental Panel on Forests of the Commission on Sustainable Development (E/CN.17/IPF/1996/9, annex).
