وجاء في العروض التي قدّمها المتكلّمون المدعوون وصفٌ للنظم الفضائية العالمية الحالية والمقبلة في مجال الملاحة وتحديد المواقع ولتطبيقات هذه النظم، وكذلك لحالة المبادرات والتجارب الدولية الجارية في مجال تطبيق النظم العالمية لسواتل الملاحة واستخدامها.

Space technology, such as Earth observations, communications and navigation and geo-positioning systems, can provide the necessary information for disaster management and the means to transmit such information to decision makers in a timely manner.
253- ويمكن لتكنولوجيا الفضاء، مثل بيانات رصد الأرض والاتصالات ونظم الملاحة وتحديد المواقع الجغرافية، أن توفّر المعلومات اللازمة لإدارة الكوارث ووسائل نقل هذه المعلومات إلى متخذي القرارات في الوقت المناسب.

The world community should play an active role in satellite navigation and position services by participating in the development and exploitation of a global system that answers the needs of all civil users. The reasons for this are threefold:
٨٩ - ينبغي للمجتمع العالمي أن يؤدي دورا فعالا في خدمات الملاحة وتحديد المواقع باستخدام السواتل ، وذلك بالمشاركة في تكوين نظام عالمي يلبي احتياجات جميع المستخدمين المدنيين والاستفادة منه ، وهذا لثلاثة أسباب هي :
