32. The Secretary-General also issued a message on the occasion of World Day to Combat Desertification in 2013, calling for a collective global response to drought and a shift from crisis management to drought preparedness and resilience.

4. On World Malaria Day in 2008, the Secretary-General called for efforts to bring an end to malaria deaths by ensuring universal coverage of malaria control interventions by the end of 2010.
