In 1985, Canada initiated resolution 40/152, which was adopted by consensus and called on all States to communicate their views on the subject.

6. Switzerland stands ready for comments by States Parties to further improve the CBM forms and invites States Parties to provide their views in the period up to the Seventh Review Conference.

In paragraph 3 of the resolution, the Assembly calls upon all relevant organs, organizations and bodies of the United Nations system to consider, in accordance with their mandates, the recommendations addressed to them and to inform the Assembly of their views in this regard.

Takes note with appreciation, in this regard, of the rule of law briefing by the Rule of Law Unit, held at the forty-fifth session of the Commission, which allowed the Commission to contribute its views to the high-level meeting of the General Assembly on the topic of the rule of law at the national and international levels, held on 24 September 2012;
