While welcoming the measures taken by the State party to broaden the mandate of the Austrian Ombudsman Board (AOB) to act as a national human rights institution and as a national preventive mechanism under Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture, the Committee is concerned to note that the manner in which members of the AOB are appointed continues to raise issues regarding their independence.
